Man United In Contact With Ipswich Town Manager Kieran McKenna’s agent

According to Foot Mercato (via the Manchester Evening News), Manchester United have made contact with Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna’s agent to know whether he would be interested in taking over Erik ten Hag’s role at Old Trafford.

Kieran McKenna

McKenna has been promoted twice with Ipswich since leaving the job as United’s first-team coach in 2021. He has now helped his side win promotion to the Premier League and this has attracted a lot of interest from top English clubs.

The 38-year-old has taken his side from League One to the EPL in just 13 months. He has already signed a long-term contract with Ipswich that runs until 2027.

INEOS chief Sir Jim Ratcliffe is impressed by the Northern Irish manager and has held talks with his representatives to enquire about his availability this summer.

McKenna joined United’s coaching setup in 2016 from Tottenham Hotspur and he was the Red Devil’s under-18 manager for two years. He was then promoted to the first team under Portuguese boss Jose Mourinho.

He played a role in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s tenure and was also a part of Ralf Rangnick’s team before leaving in December 2021 to join his current side.

It has proved to be a masterstroke for the young manager who has demonstrated his skill at the Portman Road Stadium. Hence, it is normal for clubs to surround him but Man United seems to be a surprise name in this list.

Even pundit Chris Sutton has hailed McKenna for being a phenomenal manager but he is too young to coach a top club like United. He needs to spend more time at Ipswich and evolve his skills.

This will help him grab more attractive offers later on and it will also help him build a legacy with his present club. Ipswich will be excited about their new Premier League journey next season and we believe that McKenna should stay.

Man United might come to him later but it will be better if the club avoids making a huge gamble in their squad rebuilding time of the season.

It remains to be seen whether they will continue to trust Ten Hag or find another replacement in the upcoming months.

They certainly need to look at the club from a sporting perspective and avoid making mistakes that the Glazers did in the past few years.
