Academy Match Report: Chelsea u21s 1-2 Manchester United u18s – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United u18s took on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night in the Premier League National Final.

The match saw the two winners of the Premier League North and South battle it out for the ultimate crown of national champions.

United were on the front foot from the off and threatened with a cross from Jack Fletcher, which narrowly missed James Scanlon coming in at the back post.

Ethan Wheatley was then played over the top by Jack Kingdon to run into the left channel and take a shot first time which squeezed under the keeper but smashed off the post and back into the grasp of Chelsea’s Max Merrick.

Wheatley then struck the back of the net with an offside goal but it didn’t take him long to score a legitimate goal to put United ahead.

In the 21st minute, Kingdon stepped up to win the ball at the halfway line to Ethan Williams, who quickly slipped through Wheatley on the left side of the box to dispatch in clinical fashion.

Chelsea offered a threat of their own on the counter in the first half, drawing a goal-line clearance from Louis Jackson, but ultimately it was United in control as they took the 0-1 lead into the break.

The early proceedings of the second half looked very different though as the match opened up, leaving United vulnerable to Chelsea’s speed in attack.

Chelsea equalised just two minutes after the restart when they got to the byeline on the left wing to cross to Josh Acheampong at the back post for an easy finish.

But it was only level for seven minutes before United found their feet again to retake the lead.

After great work by Wheatley to dribble into the box, the space opened up for a cutback to Jack Fletcher, whose shot was blocked. But Williams was on hand to smash home the rebound.

Chelsea threatened again forcing a stretching save from Harrison, but it was really United who looked far more dangerous.

A series of chances came the way of Wheatley, who worked tirelessly to carve open opportunities, but he was unable to replicate the required composure in his finishing that he had he displayed in the first half.

But despite failing to add a third, two goals were enough to secure the win and crown Manchester United u18s the Premier League National champions.

The victory not only saw the young reds lifting the trophy at Stamford Bridge but also qualifies them for next year’s UEFA Youth League.
